Sunday was due to be our last long ride (3hr+) before the TransRockies, and we headed to Canmore and up the gravel road to Spray Lake reservoir, pushing the pace on the climb, to get off the dusty road quickly as possible. Then we picked up an old 4WD trail and headed south along the shore, yelling loudly before every corner to alert any bears to our imminent arrival! Although it should be the height of summer over here, all around us thunderstorms loomed, and just as we arrived at the head of the lake (35km from the car), the heavens opened and the temperature plummeted. After donning every item of clothing we were carrying, by the time we arrived back in Canmore I felt as cold as the last time I rode up the Remarkables this winter!
Thank God (well, Frith and the Icebreaker crew) for our Icebreaker gear, without which Simon and I would have been hypothermic
We got some of the new GT to wear - Short Sleeve Chase Crew in gecko to stand out! Long Sleeve Chase Zip in pewter/gecko and Test Team Quantum Zip's in blue and logo beanies. We managed to work with what I already had, and match up an extra set for Simon from the samples. The girls (support crew) already have a collection of superfine prints etc and both have Conquest Hoods in Java. We've sewn Icebreaker logos everywhere too, all over race jerseys etc. We'll make sure every racer knows about Icebreaker before the end of the week!
